15 Years of Resident Evil: RE Cafe Open for Business!

Yup, it’s been that long. I can hardly believe it.

It’s one of the video games franchises I grew up with, loved and still hold dear to my heart. I’m pretty sure am not the only one out there.

To commemorate the fifteen years of Resident Evil, Capcom serves up all sorts of RE niceties up for grabs: we have the Mercenaries 3Ds, Revelations and now this: a full blown Resident Evil Cafe.

The cafe is a perked up version of the well known shooting cafe (range and cafe in one, how about that?) of the EA Shooting Bar in Musashino. While retaining the feel of  the original cafe’s set up, the RE-themed EA cafe also doubles as an exhibit of RE memorabilia, scale models and decorations. The menu and cafe treats have been given a RE facelift such that they resemble items in game or make references to them.

For short, if you’re a hardcore RE fan, you’ll be ticklish with delight at the little details present at the Resident Evil Cafe. The references are endless and so are the details. Spot them all if you can!

Instead of your boring old black and white targets you can find everywhere else, guests now have the chance to shoot zombie themed targets at the bar’s shooting range. Wouldn’t it be sweet if you could use replica airsoft guns of the cast’s guns as well?

So you have walls lined with target practice cut outs of zombies and other familiar critters from the RE menagerie. Resident Evil products are also up for display, including the not yet released Hot Toys Jill Valentine Battlesuit. Scale models of the crows and police parapharnalia (caution tape) are also found in the vicinity. The cafe was decorated to reflect the look of the Raccoon Police Deparment (RPD) after the zombies overran the city, as seen by the tapes and scattered pieces of paper. To be more specific, it’s supposed to go with a STARS theme.

As mentioned earlier, this RE cafe is not a permanent establishment that fans and enthusiasts can visit whenever they feel like it. It’s only going to be around for a month, starting May 20, 2011 until June 19, 2011. Do remember that this is just a perked up EA Shooting Cafe so it’s truly safe to say that once it’s gone, it’ll be gone for good.

Such a pity! I won’t be able to visit it if that’s the case. I won’t be going to Japan anytime soon! Drats.

Who knows, Capcom might consider making a permanent RE cafe for fans to enjoy in the tradition of the Sakura Taisen cafe back in the early decade. It ran for a good number of years before finally closing down. Or maybe simply a general Capcom cafe with changing themes, reflecting their different games throughout the years. We’ll never know!

Considering that at these thematic cafes, the staff always dress appropriately… I wonder what they’d be wearing.
It would be too much of a stretch to expect them dressed as zombies or as the other critters in game but hey that would be surely something wouldn’t it? I’m lowering my expectations on something more normal like the gear Cindy from Resident Evil Outbreak wore. Sounds more reasonable since she was a waitress after all.

And lastly, will they be serving Jill Sandwiches? Hahaha. They do have the Tofu Survivor then apparently.

So if you’re in Japan, have the cash to spare and are a hardcore RE fan, do drop by at the Resident Evil cafe!
