Taking Apart the Nintendo DSi XL

Curious to know what is the difference between the new ‘Nintendo DSi XL’ and the “old” ‘Nintendo DSi’ besides what you see outside?

Of course we do, but we don’t dare to take it apart ourselves, since throwing the new DSi XL on the floor just to open it up is not a very smart idea if you planning on assembling it back up afterwards. Well, the experts at iFixit show us how delicately you can take apart the new ‘Nintendo DSi XL’ and see how the components inside the new XL compare to the “old” DSi.

Not surpassingly that the new DSi XL is almost identical to the “old” DSi except for a few minor changes such as a new larger battery to support the larger screen and the logic board is also larger now. The chips and everything else is identical to the “old” DSi, there is no sight of the rumored ‘Tegra’ chip at all. So, technically adding the XL to the ‘Nintendo DSi’ is literally correct on Nintendo’s part because you are basically getting a ‘Xtra Large’ version of the DSi.

Check out the step by step tutorial from iFixit, if you want to break it down yourself too (or just try it my way, its faster).
