There are many reasons why are MMORPGs so popular nowadays. For instance, you can play with the group of your friends and not with mindless AI controlled models. Since it’s multiplayer, it’s a lot of fun, but for how long? There are many MMORPGs on the market and only one is still gaining popularity, and that’s World of Warcraft. I’ve played World of Warcraft for some time and after a few months I got bored because game was insanely boring. Game might have been fun for some time, but after a few months it would become so repetitive and blank so it’s no wonder that many players have quit. Instead of mindless grinding, they wanted something else, a true story that will make them feel as a part of a greater universe. This is the main reason why are MMORPGs losing its popularity over time, but things might change soon.
Did you know that there is something bigger and greater than Warcraft? A whole new universe that has existed for a long time and that has a much bigger audience than Warcraft. Of course I’m talking about Star Wars. Yes, there were Star Wars MMOs before, but none of them was made by Bioware. As you know Bioware is responsible for some of the best RPGs on the market and at the same time Bioware has developed the best Star Wars game ever. Of course, I’m talking about the Knights Of The Old Republic. And now, Bioware has decided to go massively online, and we’re looking forward to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Trust me, Star Wars: The Old Republic is not just another plain MMORPG, it’s so much more. Yeah, there are standard classes such as Trooper that serves as the main tank, Smuggler, Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular as the main healer. Now when you have a party you’re ready to take your quest, and this is where the magic starts. Unlike in other MMORPGs, such as World Of Warcraft, NPCs will actually talk to you and your team through ingame sequence like in Mass Effect. Before you get a quest, you’ll enter ingame sequence that will give you all details about the current mission. It really makes you feel like you’re playing a good single player RPG with a great story that way, but that’s not all. Unlike in other MMORPGs your party members can influence your conversation with a quest giver and for the first time, you’ll have round dialog box and you’ll be able to choose several answers from it. It really reminds me a lot of Mass Effect and that’s great, because you’ll get the feeling that you’re playing Mass Effect in a Star Wars universe online.
This is something really refreshing and amazing and it will really make you feel like you’re a part of a story and not just a mindless grinding machine. Star Wars: The Old Republic looks amazing in every way and we’re looking forward to the official release. Maybe the World of Warcraft killer has come?
