Quick Look at Civilization V

Civilization was one of the best turned based strategies that I’ve played because it offered you a chance to rewrite the history of the world. Imagine how would world look if Gandhi was a conquer or if Napoleon was a pacifist. Well, with Civilization you can answer those questions because you become leader of a single nation and you lead it from ancient age, through medieval times and renaissance to the modern era. That way you can alter the entire history and world order.

Civilization had many sequels and all of them were great for the fans, but it seems like fans needed something new and fresh, and this is where Civilization V comes in. Civilization V should bring many improvements, but the biggest one is the fully redesigned playing field. Unlike in previous games you won’t have square fields to move, instead Civilization V will introduce hexagons. Also a great improvement is that only one unit can occupy one field so we won’t see any stack rushes like in previous games. Now you’ll have to plan each move and deploy your units better than before in order to make a successful attack.

In addition, you won’t be bringing your siege weapons into the front line like in previous games. Now siege weapons have certain range and they can shoot over units. This is great improvement and ranged units should work in the same way. Siege of cities has also been changed so now you can have only one unit in your city to defend it, but city will defend itself with all sorts of building such as walls and towers. In addition if you capture a city you can plunder it and burn it to the ground or annex it, but that may not be the best solution because citizen might revolt. Therefore there’s an option to form a temporary government that will work on its own but with the reduced chance of revolt.

Everything has been changed with this game, new and better engine, new ways to expand, new combat system and hexagon grid will provide enough material for the fans that want to rewrite history all over again. Release date is set for September 21st in United States and September 24th worldwide.
