Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force is warning parents of predators using games like, “Animal Crossing-City Folk” to target kids. Animal Crossing lets gamers create cute characters and create your own town and house. The game also let users hook up to the internet and can talk to anyone across the country no matter the age limit as long as they own the game.

Officer Andy Anderson from the Task Force has this to say “There is no reason an adult should have this game”. He also says adults playing “animal crossing” and similar games are likely doing it for the wrong reasons.

According to Anderson, it’s games like this that makes kids more vulnerable to sexual predators. The game structure requiresthe user to talk to other gamers, build relationships, and exchange letters, gifts, and favors in order to advance in the game.

As of now, three Missouri children have already been contacted by predators in the game. However, Anderson said this is not something to be paranoid about, but just be aware of it. He also warns any game that allows instant messaging and voice-over IP is a danger. Basically, over half the games out there are a pedobear heaven.
