Nintendo DSi Sales Surge 169,350% at Amazon

Sales for the new DSi was snapped up by buyers on the pre-orders in an instant. Amazon.com had to limit purchasing this week due to high demand for the product. On the product page at Amazon it disclaimed that the retailer is limiting the number of purchases to three per household.

Nintendo’s new DSi is the third iteration of the Nintendo DS which will be released on April 5, 2009 in the U.S. It is priced at US$169.99 and comes in matte black or matte blue.

 

It is 12% thinner and comes with not one but two cameras.  One external and one facing the user to take and share photos with family and friends.The cameras will also offer new ways for players to interact with games pending developer deployment in future titles. DSi also includes a sound application which offers voice recorder and a music playback software.

Owners can use the new SD card slot for external storage such as storing pictures, AAC audio, and downloaded software. Nintendo will release a DSiWare application to allow users to download new application by using the Wi-Fi.

Nintendo had shipped 200,000 DSi units for its launch in Japan. During its first two days on sale in Japan, the DSi sold 170,779 units according to Enterbrain. In its first month on sale, the DSi sold 535,379 units in Japan after that it has reached up to 1,280,000 units being sold in Japan.

Seeing Amazon had to limit pre-orders on the DSi and “it” being ranked number 2 on the hardware sales in Japan. It will probably be a very good year for Nintendo even with the conditions of the economy.
