Resident Evil is the gaming franchise that has created survival horror genre as we know it today. There isn’t a scarier thing than the undead zombies that are shambling towards you in narrow hallways while you’re shooting them with the last remaining bullets. But for some reason, developers have decided to abandon zombies and the whole zombie survival horror thing and focus more on the action. Same thing happen to the movie series as well.

As you might remember, there have been three Resident Evil movies so far, and they didn’t have much in common with the game except the T virus, Raccoon City and zombies. Just as any other movie that is based on a video game it didn’t achieve huge success. Then the sequel came, and it was even bigger step away from the game series because it was focusing way more on to action than on the story itself. Another sequel came and we saw some characters from the game series, but it wasn’t enough for the movie to get good reviews from the fans or the critics. All those movies were typical blockbusters that offered nothing more than the raw action, but that isn’t stopping the producers from making a new Resident Evil movie.

Following the footsteps of the game series that has abandoned almost all survival horror concepts the new movie will focus on a new type of enemy. Online trailer shows Alice, the main protagonist from the past movies, fighting in devastated world against the Majini. There is even a scene when Wesker throws his shades like in the Resident Evil 5. Overall, Resident Evil: Afterlife will be a decent action movie with all sorts of new 3D effects, but nothing more in my opinion.
