New Mario Game This Year?
Why fix what isn’t broken? With the Wii and DS both dominating their respective markets, it looks like its time for Nintendo to settle in and do what they do best – make amazing games. Of course, when the name Nintendo comes up, you can’t help but think about the company’s long-time mascot, the mustachioed plumber Mario.
At last years E3, Nintendo bigwig Satoru Iwata reported that the teams behind their best franchises – Mario and Zelda – were already at work on new games in those franchises for the Wii.
According to the Japanese newspaper, Nikkei, we should be seeing at least the Mario title sometime this year. Details on the project were sparse – the focus of the paper’s article was more on the next generation of Wii Fit, known as Wii Fit Plus. At this point, it hasn’t been revealed whether the game will be a full-on flagship title like 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy, or one of Nintendo’s cast-based games, like the various sports titles.
We should find out more in the next couple of days as more information comes out of E3, but it pretty much goes without saying that Nintendo probably has another hit coming down the pipe.
