Marvel MMO might be revived by Gazillion Entertainment

Gazillion Entertainment just announced a partnership with Marvel Entertainment to have the rights to use Marvel superheroes for upcoming games.

The online game startup Gazillion just signed a 10-year deal with Marvel and is aiming to bring mass-market online games over the next few years. The first game to debut from Gazillion will be Super Hero Sqaud which is a kid oriented online game based on a upcoming cartoon from Marvel.

Robert Hutter, chief executive and president of Gazillion, they will be able to make any number of online games based on any of the 5,000 characters in the Marvel universe.

This might suggest that Gazillion will pick up the cancelled Marvel Online Universe which was dropped by Cryptic Studios and Microsoft. Although, Gazillion was operating under the radar from the public, the company does have a lot of investors to back it up such as Oak Investments, Allen & Company, Founder’s Fund, Hearst Corp. Investment Group, Revolution Ventures and UV Partners.

If they do go forth with the plans to pick up Marvel Online Universe they will be looking at strong competitors. Besides Blizzard’s juggernaut  called World of Warcraft, they will also be competing with Sony Online Entertainment since they are currently making DC Universe Online. However, with strong popular characters from Marvel it still stand a chance to succeed against these two MMO competitors and other MMOs out there.
