From E3: Modern Warfare 2 Actual Gameplay Demo

It seems like you can’t swing a stick these days without hitting a new Call of Duty title. As the History channel has proven, people just can’t seem to get enough of World War II. However, in 2007 the series originator Infinity Ward shook up the scene by releasing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – which not only broke away from the series regular WWII formula and brought the fight into the modern era, but it also created one of the most memorable and exciting first person shooters in recent memory. Later this year, Infinity Ward is bringing us another taste of modern combat in Modern Warfare 2. While it doesn’t bear the Call of Duty name, it does bear the mark of Infinity Ward quality, which you can see in the gameplay demo shown this week at E3.

The demo reveals some pretty interesting details. The action kicks off with some death defying climbing along some precarious icy ledges. Most of the action here is player controlled, which has the potential to create some intense and harrowing near-death experiences. The demo then skips ahead, and the player character pulls out a gun with an attachment that seems to show thermal signatures, allowing him to snipe his enemies through a near white-out blizzard. Later, the action kicks into full swing with a shootout and a crazy-looking snowmobile chase that looks to be player controlled, as opposed to the rail-shooter type vehicle sections of the prior game.

All in all, the game looks fantastic and every bit as thrilling as the previous Modern Warfare game. The game should be hitting the shelves in November for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
